Children born in the 80s and early 90s, who became exposed
to internet/social networking services
such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube , LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram,
among others at age 20 and above, are academically and morally better than
those who are exposed to the same in their teenage years. True or False? And
why?
These are some people's views and opinions:
Tosin Gbogi - “I think those of us exposed to it at age 20 plus are better, these kids exposed
to it in their teens are worse I believe. The more you have of internet and social
networking sites. The more distracted and confused you become”
Odun – “from my point of view, children exposed to the
internet and social networks are better. They are vast in knowledge because
they flow with the trend of new ideas and information on the internet, while children
of the older age (20 +) strive to keep themselves up to date regularly.

the internet is a force for 2things , good and bad ...but it seems like evil or bad is actually conquering the good. this is as a result of high level immorality that is on-going everywhere in the world today. kids with the advent of the internet can sit comfortably in their rooms, school, playground, toilet, the list goes on..and watch pornographic videos and nude pictures on their mobile phones. they chat too much and forget to rest their bodies(sleep) and they barely have the time to look into their books so as to acquire knowledge.there are many other disadvantages i can talk about here but time will fail me if i go on with it. MY ADVICE: if u have kids that have these devices , monitor what they do with it. and help them set a time limit for everything they do.
ReplyDeleteI think those exposed to internet/social networking services at age 20+ are better. Teenagers come off worse in my opinion. While it is true that the internet has abundance of intellectual resources and overbrims with information, it is also true that the uses to which it has been put by the vast majority of teenagers is scary. Think about social relationships in this connection. With the explosion of the internet--with all its McLuhanesque rhetoric of globalization--the internet fragments us into abstract beings who neither concretely relate with a physical space nor seriously relate with our environment. In other words, the internet replaces the idea of a physical location and human bodies engaging in a physical interaction with that of a simulated (to invoke Baudrillard) experience. Everywhere you go, you see people holding phones, tablets, etc., looking up occasionally in a manner most suspicious. They don't say a word; they only hold their phones and travel into this sort of Fantasy Realm. More like the modern version of astral projection, one can argue. Now that's the madness of the age and the people most affected by that madness are of course those who had their first access to the internet in their teenage years. These guys are not earthly beings as you can see and hear everywhere; they are netizens. But to be honest, their problem is compounded by the illusion of the real created by the social networking services. From here, I suppose, all cookies crumble. And in this connection you can think of online dating and the rest of them. But don't be deceived; we are going somewhere. That where is what I don't know.
ReplyDeleteI agree with ohers point of view that children born in 90's are well exposed to internet and other social networking. In the 80's the use of computer was so limited to people that are rich and even the very few ones that have did not allow their children to use them. Therefore, how could the chidren have the knowledge of what they don't know? The social vices which we are experiencing now were not in existence in the 80s. Computer literacy has brought new innovations which are of good benefits to the children of nowadays but the. Ill effects of it is being seeing everywhere at homes, schools, churches in the world. Who is to be blamed, the internet or the users?
ReplyDeleteOn major thing I believe is that technology has taken a whole lot from the teens. E.g in church now u would see that the teens are more focused on their iPhone, ipad Samsung android phones than even the word of God been preached
